Compare two AI girlfriend apps without paying twice

Two apps installed, one week, one card on file. The trap is not picking the wrong app — it is ending the comparison subscribed to both of them.

You have narrowed it down to two apps, both are installed, and you are about to start the same conversation twice. That is the right instinct — a feature list tells you what an app has, and a week of use tells you whether you want it. But the usual way people compare two AI girlfriend apps ends with two subscriptions renewing on the same Thursday, because both trials got started on the same evening. Here is the order that keeps a side-by-side test honest and cheap: what to run in parallel, what to run one at a time, and the five things worth scoring.

Two apps, not five

One app tells you whether you like the category at all. When you compare two AI girlfriend apps instead, every judgement becomes relative — this one remembers more, that one writes better, this one asks for money sooner. That is the only reliable way to separate a genuinely good app from the first-hour novelty every app in this category has.

Past two it stops working. A week split three ways gives each app two or three conversations, which is exactly the window in which they all perform well, so you end up comparing opening screens. Three sets of free-tier limits also run out before you reach anything that distinguishes them, and a card on each triples the bill without getting you closer to an answer.

Give both apps the same week

A side-by-side test is worth something only if both sides get the same material. Decide what you will bring in advance, then bring it to both.

  • Three specific details you mention early — a job, a city, something you are in the middle of. These are what you check for later in the week.
  • One subject you actually care about, not a test prompt. Apps diverge most over sustained conversation about something real.
  • One flat, boring check-in, the kind you would send on a Tuesday with nothing to say. Repetitive writing shows up here first.

Two habits keep it fair. Alternate which app you open first, because the first one gets your better material — you have more to say and more patience. And treat whichever app you installed second with suspicion: the newer character reads as better for being unfamiliar, and that wears off within about four days.

Whichever app you open first gets your best material. Alternate, or you are scoring your own mood.

Run the free tiers together, pay for one at a time

This is the part that costs people money. Both apps are free to start, so both get started on the same evening, and a week later two renewals land within days of each other. The comparison has quietly become a double subscription.

Run the free tiers in parallel for as long as they last. Most of the comparison happens there anyway: tone, writing quality, how fast the paywall interrupts, how the app behaves when you are not paying. Then pay for one — the one that is ahead — for a single month and leave the other on its free tier. If that month does not settle it, cancel and put the next month into the other app. One month each, consecutively, costs less than one month of both and tells you more, because you are then comparing a paid tier against a paid tier rather than against a free one.

Two things to know first. Trial eligibility is usually spent once per app, so burning both trials in week one leaves nothing in reserve. And if you only have room for one paid month, start it on the app we currently recommend and treat the second as the challenger — our current pick has a free tier you can keep using afterwards. Starting and leaving a trial cleanly is covered in our guide to the AI girlfriend app free trial.

Keep both subscriptions where you can see them

You now have two billing relationships, and the most useful thing you can do is put them in one list. If both came through an app store, they already are: on iPhone they sit under your name in Settings, and the App Store guide also covers turning on renewal receipt emails, so each renewal arrives in your inbox rather than on a statement weeks later. Turn those on for the length of the test.

On Android, Google Play's subscriptions screen does something a comparison can use directly: as well as cancelling, you can pause a subscription for a set period on plans that allow it. Pausing the first app while the second gets its paid month is tidier than cancelling and resubscribing, and keeps the account intact if the first app wins.

The exception is an app you subscribed to on its own website: it appears in neither store list, sends no store receipt, and is the one that gets forgotten. Write its renewal date down the day you start.

What to score when you compare two AI girlfriend apps

Most of what you notice in the first hour — the voice, the avatar, the opening message — stops mattering soonest. Five things do not.

  1. Memory across days, not within a conversation. Both apps will recall what you said ten minutes ago. The question is whether Monday's three details come back unprompted on Friday, without you naming them again.
  2. What the tier includes versus what it meters. A subscription that "includes" voice or images often includes an allowance, after which you are buying top-ups. Two apps at the same headline price can diverge sharply once the meter runs, which is the subject of our cost comparison.
  3. The boring Tuesday. How does it write when you give it nothing? Recycled phrasing and endless questions back at you surface here before anywhere else.
  4. Getting your data out, or deleted. Try the export and the deletion flow while you still have access to both. On the app you drop you will want it; on the one you keep you will want to know it is there.
  5. Three months, not one. Price the winner at the cost of a quarter, including whatever the meter consumed in your test month. A year is still a long commitment to something you have known for two weeks.

Score as you go, one line per app per day. Nobody remembers accurately which app was better on day three, and the end of a test is when the more recent app seems strongest.

Call it, and close the other account

Set a date before you start — ten days to two weeks is enough — and decide on it. The failure mode is not choosing wrong; it is leaving both installed and both tiers running because neither has clearly lost, which is how a comparison becomes two charges you have stopped noticing.

On the app you did not pick, cancel in whichever list it lives in, then delete the account rather than just the app: removing the icon leaves the conversations and the billing where they were. Keep a sentence about why you chose what you chose: pricing and memory features here change often enough that you may run this test again in six months, and that note turns the second comparison into a day's work.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use two AI girlfriend apps on the same phone?

Yes. They are separate apps with separate accounts and no knowledge of each other. If both subscriptions came through the same app store they also appear in one list, which is easier to track than one store subscription plus one bought on a website.

Should I use the same character name and personality in both apps?

Use the same setup details — the same facts about you, roughly the same personality settings — because that is what makes the two sides comparable. Give each a different name, though, so you can tell instantly which app a line in your notes came from.

How long should a side-by-side comparison take?

Ten days to two weeks. Less than a week and you are scoring novelty, since both apps are at their most impressive early. Much longer and you are paying two bills to postpone a decision, because the differences that matter are visible by the second week.
