In-app currency is specific to the app that sold it, does not transfer anywhere, and is generally not refunded: store refund policies cover faulty or unauthorised purchases rather than a change of mind, and Google Play's own policy makes the eligibility narrow.

Two things follow. Stop topping up the moment a switch becomes plausible, however good the value per coin of the larger pack — that value is irrelevant on coins you never spend. And spend the balance down deliberately in your last weeks on the app.

Nine unused months on one app plus a fresh subscription on another is a bad month however good the new app is. Usually the right move is to run out the term, treat the new app as something to try on its free tier meanwhile, and decide at renewal, when the cost of leaving is zero.

This is the part of the annual plan trade-off that gets underweighted at signup: the discount is real, and so is the fact that it prices your ability to change your mind.
